The Venturn Young Professional Regatta 2024

Teamwork and Performance on the Water: The Venturn Young Professional Regatta 2024

On Friday, 20 September 2024, the biennial Regatta was scheduled as part of the team-building process within the Venturn Young Professional (VYP) program. This unique experience took place in Wemeldinge, where the VYP’ers were prepared, under the guidance of Patrick van de Ven, for this sailing competition. By only utilizing a map and a handful of coordinates, the participants were given the task of finding the optimal route across the Westerschelde, with the goal of sailing faster than previous generations of Young Professionals.

With a strong focus on teamwork and a clear division of the tasks, the roles were quickly divided. Helmsman Arthur Kavelaars led the team at the Hansweert Watergate, where the sails were hoisted. While sailing, the maritime heart of many VYP’ers started to beat faster: as they were surrounded by ship traffic on their way to the port of Antwerp. With agility and team spirit, the VYP’ers managed to avoid the ships and keep course to the finish line at the port of Vlissingen.

The VYP’ers completed this challenging sailing competition in a record time of three-and-a-half hours, the fastest time to this day! This victory was celebrated with a delicious barbecue in Wolphaartsdijk. The day ended with a pleasant evening in Goes, where team spirit was further strengthened during a pub crawl.

In summary, it was a fantastic day full of sportiveness, cooperation and unforgettable moments. A great experience for the VYP program that further strengthened the bond between the Young Professionals!
