At Venturn, we believe it is important for our Young Professionals to develop into leaders within the maritime industry. Stef Sjoerdsma, one of our Young Professionals, shares his story about his career growth at APM Terminals Maasvlakte II.
Over a year ago, Stef started his assignment as Process Lead in the engineering department of APMT MVII. In this challenging role, he was given the opportunity to further develop his skills in engineering processes, SCRUM/Agile, and team management. Stef contributed to optimizing and setting up processes, while gaining valuable experience in a technically advanced environment.
A new role obviously brings its own challenges. Thanks to the training and the network provided by the VYP program, Stef received the support he needed to share his experiences and continue to develop.
A New Step
On January 1st, Stef took the role of Manager Warehouse & Inventory at APMT MVII. According to Stef, this opportunity is the result of everything he learned in his first year of the traineeship. In his new role, he can make a greater impact on technical and logistical processes. Together with his team, he creates an efficient and future-proof warehouse. The warehouse is undergoing a transformation, moving from a breakdown to a maintenance warehouse. This means that the inventory and supply chain must be organized for preventive maintenance, using data analysis. At the same time, the warehouse plays a larger role in projects, such as the collaboration with Hapag-Lloyd and the terminal expansion.
Future
In the coming year, Stef will not only build on his previous experiences but will also be able to rely on the valuable lessons from the VYP curriculum. He applies insights from the business management, pitching, and data modules daily. Personally, he particularly feels that the Lumina training has helped him immensely in achieving results the right way.
“I look forward to continuing to use my knowledge and experiences while further developing myself as both a professional and a leader.” – Stef Sjoerdsma
