Venturn at the Economic Business Weeks Tilburg (EBT)

On Monday, April 28, Julie Coers, Sjors Kalfsterman and Vincent Dijkstra attended the Economic Business Weeks Tilburg (EBT), a career event where students and companies meet. Venturn regularly attends these kinds of events, and that is no coincidence. We deliberately seek interaction with students who are about to take their next step.

Whether it’s through a workshop, a personal interview or a presentation by one of our trainees: we always hope to give something valuable and to find the right match for both the students and the Venturn Young Professionals program.

Why are we at events like EBT?

We believe that engaging with students is the best way to recognize genuine interest, and that interest does not necessarily have to be already fully developed. What we are looking for are people who have leadership ambitions, who are curious about the maritime sector. The right study is of less importance here, as the maritime sector offers opportunities in many different fields.

During events like EBT we like to offer a look behind the scenes of our work. We prefer to do this with inspiring content that not only gives the students a good picture of Venturn but also provides them with something lasting.

Presentation & workshop

We kicked off the day with a presentation by Sjors, a Venturn Young Professional. He talked about his assignment at the Inland Terminal Group (ITG), the largest inland terminal network in Benelux. He immediately managed to visually portray ITG’s impact on everyday life with several tangible examples.

Did you know that every Nike product in the Netherlands almost certainly entered the country through one of their terminals?

Sjors had the opportunity to work with ITG’s CEO to develop a five-year strategy. His story gives a good idea of the impact you can quickly make as a trainee, and his enthusiasm was contagious.

Following that, Julie Coers provided an interactive workshop focused on leadership. Through thought-provoking statements, recognizable examples and the concept of situational leadership, students gained insight into the different forms of leadership and how to adapt their leadership style to a team or situation.

Personal interview: what drives you?

During the individual interviews, Julie and Vincent engaged with students who were interested in our traineeship. As Field Manager of the VYP’ers, Julie was able to give a good impression of the content of the program and what it has to offer. Vincent, as a trainee, was able to complement this well with his personal experiences within the traineeship.

What do we then want to know from the people we talk to: What drives you? Where do you want to go? Do you have an interest in the maritime world, or can it develop? These are questions we like to explore together. In a relaxed setting there is room for both in-depthness and curiosity. All together, it was a very successful day in which we were able to talk to and hopefully enthuse many potential VYP’ers.
